Context

Owing to prominent gender disparities in South-East Asia, individuals of different genders encounter distinct levels of satisfaction regarding their rights socially, economically, culturally, and politically. As a result, this setting may lead to scenarios where one gender, or both, becomes more inclined to emigrate, thereby intensifying the phenomenon of brain drain.

The chart above illustrates the emigration count of males compared to females for South-East Asian countries during a specific year.

A notable discrepancy in the emigration numbers between males and females from a country could indicate underlying issues or dynamics within that nation during the given period.

Key Findings

This section highlights all key findings found within the visualisation above.

Since the year 2000,

Malaysia

has witnessed a steadily increasing gap between Male and Female emigrants, with the count of Females surpassing that of Males.

The difference has shifted from 133,346  to 179,130  in 2020.

Country

Thailand

exhibited the most significant and consistent gender disparity in emigration, with Female emigrants being a majority, comprising a substantial 59% of the total in 2020.

Among the 11 countries, only Indonesia and Myanmar experienced a consistently higher count of male emigrants from 2000 to 2020.

In the tapestry of emigration, gender threads its way through the stories of those who dare to dream beyond the confines of their birthplace.
